Living Labs for Mitigating Climate Change in Agriculture
Organised by CONCAT Living Lab, EcoReady Project, PRIMED Project, and the Interreg Euro-MED Innovative Sustainable Economy Mission with the support of Generalitat de Catalunya, IRTA, Naked Innovations, FCAC, Xarxa Agritech, BETA TC (UVIC-UCC), and BioHubCat.
The European Union has committed to achieving climate neutrality by 2050 under the European Green Deal, placing agriculture and food systems at the heart of this transition. With their dual role as both contributors to greenhouse gas emissions and providers of essential food security, these systems are critical to meeting Europe’s climate goals. Addressing these challenges demands collaboration between researchers, policymakers, businesses, and citizens.
The Mediterranean, as one of the regions most affected by climate change, faces unique vulnerabilities. Rising temperatures, water scarcity, and extreme weather are disrupting agricultural productivity and threatening rural livelihoods. At the same time, the region holds vast potential to pioneer sustainable solutions. Living Labs—collaborative innovation spaces engaging diverse stakeholders—are key to co-creating, piloting, and scaling solutions that enhance climate resilience while fostering systemic change.
This 2 day conference brings together entities and organisations working with systemic and living lab approaches in Europe to maximise the contribution of the agri-food sector to climate mitigation through systemic approaches, strengthen connections among stakeholders to accelerate the adoption of innovative solutions, highlight and reinforce the role of Living Labs as drivers of localised, impactful change, and to lay the groundwork for a Mediterranean network of transformative Living Labs to tackle shared climate challenges.

Co-Creation and Training Workshop
We're thrilled to share highlights from our recent Co-creation and Training Workshop for Scenario Development held on June 27-28, 2024, at the NH Hotel World Trade Centre in Den Haag, Netherlands. Representatives from our 10 Living Labs came together for this pivotal event.
The first day featured introductions to LCA and scenario modelling tools, followed by group discussions on the main drivers of food insecurity and system resilience. The second day delved deeper into these drivers, identifying specific sub-categories and potential interventions. Each Living Lab representative presented their findings, sparking insightful discussions on regulatory roles and regional issues.

ECO-Ready kick-off meeting January 23-24, 2023, University of Life Sciences, Prague, Czech Republic
The ECO-READY project organized its kick-off meeting at Prague University of Life Sciences, the coordinator of the project. The project is funded by the Horizon Europe program with a budget of nearly € 14 million comprising 18 partners from 11 EU countries. It aims at identifying, classifying and evaluating the factors affecting food security related to climate change and other system shocks at the local and European level for delivering a digital Observatory as a real-time surveillance system.
